I, of course, am voting for President Obama; and I've yet to hear a valid reason why I should vote for Mitt Romney.
President Obama has put his heart and soul into this country- in short, it's obvious he cares. He has been moderate and modest in character, so much so that it has hurt him on occasion. He has been genuine about discussing every subject, from women's issues to the economy. And he has had some real success. He did issue the command that led to the death of bin Laden: and he did make those tough, unpopular choices that helped to get us out of the Great Recession. In fact, he has put this country on a path of sustained growth regardless of who win this Presidential election. And, maybe the most important factor to me, he managed to pass healthcare reform. The choice is clear to me -- President Obama.
Mitt Romney, on the other hand, has put his character on sale in order to appeal to his party's base. He has also put his character on sale to then appeal to the more mainstream. In short, he doesn't have any character left; he has reduced himself to a caricature. Through Bain Capital, he has promoted off-shoring jobs and reducing manufacturing in the US. On a personal level, he has done everything conceivable to put almost zero towards our country's revenue, by using his religion and his inherited wealth. He has shown time and again that he has a hard time relating to people -- culminating with shipping $5,000 worth goods to the Red Cross for Hurricane Sandy relief, when they've explicitly stated that monetary donations are best. But all that aside, I truly don't know what Mitt Romney stands for; he has taken opposing views on almost every major policy issue.
So I'm up front is stating Romney won't be getting my vote. But I am curious about Romney supporters and why they are voting for him. I've heard many conservative viners deride the President on all manner of things, but it always comes down to a sense of distrust; at least that's how it seems to me. So in an effort to better understand the Romney voter's mindset, I've put together a short poll. Maybe I haven't hit on every topic, but I bet I've listed the most important ones.
Please note: I did not offer an "anybody but Obama" choice. I simply can't condone that level of ambiguity. There must be a more specific reason than simply "ABO".
Anyway, I appreciate all who come and participate and, although I expect and encourage a lively debate, I will enforce the CoH. It's the day before the election; and regardless of who wins, we are all united under one flag as Americans, with only our country's goodwill at heart. Please participate in that spirit.
